I'm guessing juvenile Buzzards... the two birds were on a large heavily wooded island in the Neuer See in the Tiergarten in central Berlin, not accessible for pedestrians or dogs. The Tiergarten is a very large partially heavily wooded park of 230 ha, surrounded by the inner city; the lake is about 2 ha with wooded banks, is fairly shallow (1-2m?) with (at the moment) a high algae growth and has healthy populations of both fish (mainly cyprinids) and the usual urban water birds.

I got a good recording of bird 1 calling, which I'm having problems uploading (format .m4a). It was consistently of 4 screeches, being repeated at ca. 30-60 sec intervals. Bird 2 remained silent. I'll keep trying with the upload.

Many thanks in advance,

Many thanks in advance,

Goshawks?

Ok, very happy to accept the juvenile Goshawks, the stripes over the eyes would also fit that - many thanks for your quick help!
