hi,
thanx for the ultra quick reply

are these common birds around Fife ?
this is my first time off ever seeing these .. and i spotted around 5 off them.

now that i know where they are i will be going back too try get a better picture..
( without my 3 year old daughter this time , so i can get closer too them without her scaring them off :'D )

They are fairly common in Fife, though probably not as common as down here in East Anglia. They have quite a distinctive fluty song, which, once learnt, you will start hearing quite a lot!

The further north you go in Scotland, the scarcer they become. They can also be very difficult to catch sight of, so you have done very well to get this photo. Later in the season, once the trees and shrubs have their leaves they can become almost impossible to see as they can be reluctant to leave dense cover.

Don't know which end of Fife you're at but breeding Blackcap are much more common in West Fife than in the east. Numbers seem to have been increasing in Fife generally however.
Winter Blackcap are most often seen in the east of Fife -apparently these birds mainly come from east-central Europe.
