Visited Birr Castle co Offaly where i believe most of the plants are non native, firstly a very striking yellow flowering bush with a strong, jasmine like smell

It looks like a hypericum to me (St John's Wort) before it is fully open.

I think this is Oregon Grape based on the holly-like leaves and yellow flowers.

Oregon Grape, widely naturalised in England now. In 3 areas near me in Kent.

I wa trying to work out if the holly like leaves were from another plant or not. But having googled 'Oregon grape' I think you are right.

I would have said mahonia. Just googled oregon grape and I think it is the same thing.
