Independent birding guides in Ecuador (2 Viewers)

My dad and step-mom retired several years ago and moved from Washington State to Ecuador in late 2011. I have visited them twice. First time was in April of 2016 (yes we were there when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit) and then again in November of 2018. I am thinking of going down again next year, maybe in February or March and am looking for a birding guide for 2 to 4 days. I have birded in and around Mindo the 2 times I was there and would like to try a different area. Perhaps the Papallacta, Guango Lodge, Cabanas San Isidro area or the Rio Intag area. I would like to find an independent guide that could take me out at a more budget friendly rate than a full blown tour company. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated! My folks live near Cayambe which is north of Quito, basically on the equator so a guide that lives in that general area would be great to reduce the travel expense portion.

Four ideas:
Firstly, check out https://puembobirdinggarden.com/ - they may be able to arrange something for you.

Secondly, If you contact the owners of Guango and San Isidro, I believe they would be able to pick you up at the airport and transport you to the lodge of your choice (or a little tour where you visit both). I don't know what the cost would be if you require a guide there - can you do independent birding once in a good location? https://www.guangolodge.com/ https://www.cabanasanisidro.com/

Thirdly, I met a guy who were driving two people around guiding them for birding. I have not used him myself, do not know his cost, but I believe he did know some birds. It seems to be this person: https://www.facebook.com/pegazocc69

There has been positive mention in other threads of a woman from Mindo who did guiding and who also guided away from Mindo. A little searching and reading in this section should give you information about her.

Niels, thanks for the info. I am already in contact with Puembo to see what they might offer. I am also in contact with the guide I used in the Mindo area back in 2018. I will see if I can track down those other folks.
