Info Needed on Best Time for Spring Trip (1 Viewer)

I'm putting together a TX trip for next spring, the plan is to fly into San Antonio, run down to the lower coast (Botteri's sparrow), then up the Rio Grande Valley, back north to the Edwards plateau to look for Golden-Cheeked warblers and Black-Capped vireos, and out to Big bend for the Colima, and whatever other neat stuff I can see. (I've already had a winter TX trip so I've seen a bunch of the specialties.) What I'm looking for are recommendations on timing to maximize my chances of seeing the species mentioned. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Mike,

Thanks for the link... good stuff! Based on the information there, I went ahead and booked for the first week of May. It looks like as good a time as any, I guess I'll find out.

Depends on how long you can stay, but any time in April should be good.

Check the following sites before you come and during your stay for the most current info on what is being seen:

NARBA: http://www.narba.org/default.aspx?MenuItemID=105&MenuGroup=Home&&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Texbirds: http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/TEXS.html

These maps are a good purchase, just pick one for the area you are going:

Also I highly recommend checking the birds currently being seen at the areas your are interested in by becoming a member of eBird. It is free and is an invaluable tool.

By the way, there were lots of spring & summer reports of the Botteri's Sparrow at Resaca de la Palma in 2010, if I recall correctly. Look at the other 2 posts that I just replied to for other info that may be helpful to you.
