Is the Nikon HG 8x30 worth twice the price of the new Nikon M7 8x30? (2 Viewers)

In allbinos review that you linked it is about comparation between MHG 8x30 vs old Monarch7 8x30, not the new M7 8x30! So I compare MHG 8x30 with same allbinos old Monarch7 8x30. You dont compare same binoculars like me and allbinos. You have the new M7 8x30.
Allbinos edge performance conclusion it is misinterpreted because Allbinos does not score the difference in resolution between the center and the edges, but only the subjective percentage of blur, which doesn't really say anything about the actual Resolution at the edges of binoculars!
Yes, it does say a lot about the edge resolution because that is what most people see. The relative difference between on-axis resolution and edge resolution is the % blur. How are you measuring the edge sharpness? You need to compare your HG 8x30 with the new M7 8x30. The new M7 8x30 is a much better binocular than the older Monarch 7 8x30. You might trade your HG 8x30 in for one and get money back!

I measuring/estimated Edge Resolution exactly the same how I measuring Central Resolution, with resolution chart! Allbinos dont do so!

I just compared my Nikon HG 8x42 with my new Nikon M7 8x30 outside and compared the edges and there is almost no difference in the edge sharpness. In daylight, there is very little difference between the views of the bigger 42mm and the smaller 30mm. I believe the edge sharpness of the Nikon M7 8x30 must be sharper than the older Nikon Monarch 7 8x30 you tested. In fact, if I just used the binocular in daylight, I might return the HG 8x42 and just keep the M7 8x30. I always have my Habicht 7x42 GA for low light. Really, the Nikon M7 8x30 is unbelievably good for a binocular you can buy for $300!

The Monarch M7 8x30’s had too much glare for me, but I would like to try the M7 8x42’s before spending twice as much for the MHG. By the way, have you tried the M5 8x42’s? They’ve received pretty good reviews.

I got a deal on the MHG 8x42 for $700. The MHG 8x42 and MHG 10x42 are better binoculars than the MHG 8x30 and MHG 10x30 because the field flattener is more effective. If you read the reviews on allbinos it will explain that. So I would recommend getting the MHG 8x42 or MHG 10x42 over the M7 8x42 or M7 10x42, but I wouldn't recommend getting the MHG 8x30 or MHG 10x30 over the M7 8x30 or M7 10x30. You can get a Nikon M7 8x42 refurbished for $349.99 on eBay, and they are just like new. They sell a ton of the M7 8x42's on eBay. That one seller has sold 28 of them because they are such a good deal! They are MIC, but they are very high quality. I like my MHG 8x42 better than the NL 8x32 I had. No GLARE!

If you cant see the difference between the Leica BN and UVHD+ then theres no way you'd see the difference between the MHG and M7, so save your money. The rest of us can easily see the difference and most would agree its worth the extra money, unless you cant see the difference. Will you be selling the M7 soon? :p

Theres not much difference in edge sharpness because the field flatteners on MHG don't work well, at least near as well as most other binos with effective field flatteners. That was one of the first things I noticed about the MHG when I got them.

Yes, once. They are nice, but I felt the M7 was worth the difference in price. Especially if you get the M7 on eBay for $300. Forget about the warranty, just self insure on an in expensive binocular like that and pocket the $200. Nikon will still probably fix it for you in the unlikely event something happens to it.

I bet if I took a Leica BN and Leica UVHD+ and covered them up so you didn't know which is which, you wouldn't be able to pick out the UVHD+. I will bet you.

No, you can get the M7 for $300. It wouldn't be worth my time. I am worth at least $300/hour.

The MHG field flatteners are not as good as an EL, but they are better than having nothing at all like a Leica with their HUGE fuzzy edges. Leica's are like looking through a window where all the edges are fogged up! The MHG 8x42 edges are better than the MHG 8x30, but it is still not an NL, but it doesn't have the GLARE either.

I might just do that. Thanks!

I’ll spare you, don’t waste your money. I’ve spent days with both, with other observers under different lighting conditions. Just because you can’t see a difference doesn’t mean there is none.
