We have a pair of magpies that frequent our garden practically every day. We have an old cat that has taken to relieving itself on the lawn (much to our annoyance but can't deter him at the moment)
Anyway this morning I observed for the first time ever.... that the male magpie was digging around near to the cat poo and then took a piece in his bill and flew off with it! about 6cm worth!
So what was he doing this for? We thought possibly nest building material and are secretly hoping that he will come back and collect the rest
no but seriously, never seen any bird do this before. Anyone have any ideas?
