Prospect of a dry night had my trap on the go, to some effect. Fewer micros than the end of June, but seven NFY in total were pleasing: Engrailed on the window, Common and Scarce Footmen, Box Moth, Blackneck (I don't get many of these so appreciated), Crambus pascuella and Endotricha flammealis.

Other than that 6 Chrysoteuchia culmella were backed up by an equal number of Heart and Dart, 4 Uncertain, 2 Bright-line Brown-eye and 5 Heart and Club. Singles of Grey Pine Carpet (also on the window), Buff-tip, Riband Wave, Large Yellow Underwing, Flame and Codling Moth complete the count.

John

Eight of eight last night/am-around the trap and under the parasol (nowt inside)+ 3 micro’s.
Common White Wave, Common Marbled Carpet, Straw Dot, Box Tree Moth (foy), Brimstone, Common Emerald, Short-cloaked Moth +(what I took to be) an odd looking Treble Brown Spot and not forgetting a Beemoth, a pyralid sp and a final white micro.

Several escapes this am 😩 with but two under the parasol a Common Emerald (without the trailing edge dotted border) is this a gender thing would anybody know?
Also a defaulted to “Scalloped Oak”, with three to four dots on each central wing point to include freckling!
Not ye’r typical Scalloped Oak, can anyone comment?

Cheers

Ran the trap last night while I stayed up to watch the election results come in, finally went to bed after going through the catch just before five.

Gold-ribbon Argent was a micro tick, and there was my second Garden Tiger, hot on the heels of my first. Also a small clutch of NFY, Mottled Rustic, Light Arches, Purple Clay & Phoenix.

@JWN Andrewes that Garden Tiger is awesome. Looks like very remote possibility for me to see one around here, fingers crossed.
Looks like I'm just under 300 sp. in July so far. Things have been very, very good on the sheets. I've already passed my goal for 600 for the year, and 850 for lifetime. Probably going to push for 750/1000.
Scallop Shell Moth, unfortunately can't get nailed to sp. but lifer even at the complex level.

Bicolored Pyrausta Moth

Twin-spotted Sphinx (lifer) was out in the daytime, and injured. My dog or I may have hit it as it was just sitting on a leaf right where we play catch.

Best one so far is this absolute beast of a moth Polyphemus Moth. I've only ever seen one hanging with wings folded up, so didn't get a good guage of the size.

Trapped Saturday and Sunday nights thanks to forecast dry weather.

So Sunday morning I found the following: Mottled Rustic NFY, 10 Heart and Dart heading up 8 Chrysoteuchia culmella, 2 Uncertain and three Heart and Club; one each of Common and Scarce Footman, a cracking Silver Y, a Bright-line Brown-eye and a Dark Arches.

This morning there was more: Dun-bar and Least Carpet NFY, 19 Heart and Dart lording it over 4 each of Heart and Club and Dark Arches with only two each of C-culmella, Crambus pascuella, Uncertain and Mottled Rustic getting past single status, where Common and Scarce Footman, a Large Yellow Underwing and a Snout languished.

There was also a European Hornet in the trap which was amenable to being put on the Buddleia for a photo: I'd rather deal with a Hornet than a wasp sp, the former are generally docile.

John

Just three for me last night + escapes 😩

Green oak tortrix, Common Footman and
Lunar-Spotted Pinion.

A wet but mild night here in Yorkshire gave my best catch so far, 103 moths of 36 species. Cyclamen Tortrix was new for the garden, with Plain Golden Y, Clay, Spectacle, Common Rustic agg., Phoenix, Fan-foot and Eucosma cana new for the year. Just Chysoteuchia culmella (39) and Dark Aches (10) in double figures.

Garden tick this morning, Shaded Broad-bar, a species I've seen as a day flyer at a bunch of sites, and had it come to light in Pembrokeshire. First Garden Carpet of the year, seriously overdue, also new were Plain Golden Y and a less than annual Beautiful Hook-tip.

On the micro front Marbled Orchard Tortrix, Green Oak Tortrix, Yellow Oak Button & Mother of Pearl all NFY, and quite a few Barred Marbles.

Been hoping for a Leopard Moth one day, but not with a huge amount of expectation, they're not at all common round here, so I was delighted to clock one on the back wall last night. Dingy Shears & Grey/Dark Dagger NFY, and a rather odd looking Scalloped Oak.

Overslept, didn’t rise til 5.30am, by which time most of the moths had flown.😩
However a few nice weenies under the parasol (Gold Triangle/Endotricha flammealis) and a “lifer” on the wall in the shape of a Small Ranunculus to add to the 3 Dunbar,
Oak Scallop, Least Carpet and Bee Moth in and around the pot…11 of 9.

49 of 17 this morning is my best catch of the year and hopefully a sign that things are improving at last.

Highlights - a Dark Umber is only my 3rd ever, White Satin and Peppered both NFY, and 7 Silver Ys is a good number for an inland garden.

111 moths, 38 species last night. Anania coronata, Common and Buff Footman, Vine's Rustic, Scalloped Oak and Turnip moth all NFY. 38 Chrysoteuchia culmella and 13 Large Yellow Underwings, otherwise mostly singles. I've been catching a few Bee Moths recently (seven last night) but I don't know of any local bee hives.
