Kirtland's Warbler breeds in Ontario (1 Viewer)

Birdstudies Canada has announced the following. If you are not familiar with Kirtland's, it is one of the most endangered breeding birds in North America, and usually breeds in a small area of upper Michigan where its habitant needs are aided, and an attempt is made to control its nest parasite, the Brown-headed Cowbird.

"This summer, scientists were thrilled to confirm a pair of Kirtland’s Warblers breeding in Ontario. The pair nested at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa in eastern Ontario. This is the first time since 1945 that this critically endangered species has been detected breeding in Canada, and the first time ever that an actual nest has been located in Canada. The family group was carefully trapped and colour banded. "

That is indeed good news - the Kirtland's is one of those warblers that I would love to see some day.
