Cant see any long hind claw so meadow pipit is out ...

As you can see by the name of the image that was what we'd stumped for ... however where is the grey head, and it seems to have a pale throat and supercillium ....

i dont think you sound stupid ... obvioulsy this is why i posted it ... honestly in the field it didnt have the jizz of a dunnock but those legs and streaky flanks look like dunnock ...
