I saw a brief glance this morning of a bird that looked to be yellow with black wings fly out of a Holly tree in our yard. The color, and contrast between the two colors, was vivid. I've not seen it in the past. From my trying to id it so far it looks like a female Baltimore but can that be here in the Piedmont portion of NC?

My range maps show that it winters on the coast in NC, and migrates throughout the state. So my guess is it is possible.

My husband & I live in Concord NC & we have wintering Baltimore orioles in our yard annually. We’ve converted a hummingbird feeder with hole sizes (ie huge) to accommodate their needs. This year we have 1 female & 1 juvenile male. An adult male visited our yard too, but he seems to prefer a neighborhood friend’s orange marmalade & more solitude than our highly active “birdy” back yard. . So, absolutely there are Baltimore orioles in our NC piedmont annually. We also have a Rufous hummingbird this winter & 2 winters back a hybrid Allen’s/Anna’s hummingbird-both are western US hummers & both were banded @ our home by hummingbird experts.
