Not one side. Two sides same color.
Given the distribution of the brown in this photo, I would say that a largeish lump of mud dropped onto its back (or some similar event) while the wings were closed. Hence the white, clean areas between the brown areas which would not have been exposed when the wings were closed. Also, for me, the colouring and feel looks much more clearly like muck in this third picture than it did in the two earlier photos.
