Magpie killed starling or... (1 Viewer)

Just heard from the house the most loud commotion from absolutely loads of starlings.looked out to see in the garden a magpie tearing a freshly killed starling to bits.my question is would this magpie of killed the starling or would a bird of prey of killed it and magpie moved in?

Mapies are opportunnists and will kill and eat nestlings and any other vulnerable prey. It is possible that the Magpie saw its chance and caught and killed this starling. Perhaps the starling got too close to the magpie whilst the magpie was eating something else.
