Manfrotto 701rc2 head (1 Viewer)

Can anyone help, i have just received my new 701rc2 head, i attached my Leica Televid APO 77 scope to it but there only seems to be one fixing point which is the centre screw which screws into the base of the scope. Im finding that with a little force the scope spins loose from the plate which i am worried will happen whilst out in the field. Does anybody have any suggestion on how to make it a more pemanent fixture. The locking pin which is supplied with the plate dosnt appear to be able to be used with the Leica scope. I hope this makes sense.

Regards

Neil

I think you can get a special head from manfrottto for various makes of scope which stops this spinning problem. look on their website or contact a specialist scope dealer.

These don't fit on the 701RC, the scope would be 90degrees out!! ie. scope is at right angles to the handle.

I'm surprised at this cos I can really tighten my 701 quick release plate on my kowa - it doesn't go anywhere even without a locking pin. It may be that the release plate thread is too long for the Leica so its not clamping down enough - if so as a short term fix I'd try packing it with some rubber/cardboard to see if you can get a better purchase when you tighten it.

The pin on the head can be unscrewed and replaced at right angles to the position it is in when bought, you should see an empty hole.at 90 degrees to the present pin position.

Hi Neil,

You are experiencing a common problem.... for which there is a solution. Your head comes with the 3157N QR plate, and the one you need is the 3157NR ..... called an 'architectural' rectangular plate ..... the difference is it has a lip on one edge to prevent twisting.

Will the Manfrotto/Bogen 3157NR mounting plate (used with a Manfrotto 128RC/Bogen 3130 tripod head) fit the Kowa TSN 824, with its relatively large, wedge-shaped foot?

Manfrotto list a Universal "Anti-Twist" Spotting Scope Plate 200USS that is designed to be used with any make of scope. See picture below. It is listed on the Warehouse Express.com web-site, but this shows a different design, as shown below.

Thanks.

Manfrotto's Universal "Anti Twist" Spotting Scope Plate #200USS appears to replace the 3157NR, as well as a number of other mounting plates designed to prevent loosening on specific scopes, including the 200CZ1 for the Zeiss 85 T* FL.

The picture on the Warehouse Express site looks like a 3157NR, with the 200USS price.

BTW, B&H Photo in New York still lists the 3157NR, for $19.95 (USD), as well as the 200USS, for $52.95.

If anyone's succesfully used the 3157NR on a Kowa TSN 824, it would be nice to pick one up while there's remaining stock.
