May Moths (1 Viewer)

Well they are May Moths for me anyway. Micro-tick Notocelia cynosbatella (I'd identified this one myself with the guide before Obsidentify told me it was 100%, so I'm confident) was backed up by NFY Orange Footman, Oak Hook-tip, Buff-tip, Peppered Moth and no doubt the first of many Tachystola acroxantha.

Other trap contents included 4 Oak-tree Pugs, 2 Shuttle-shaped Darts, an Early Grey and an LBAM.

Still one pug in the fridge for later ID. Edit: just another Oak-tree Pug. However, I found an Agonopterix alstromeriana (me and Obsidentify think so, anyway) on the outside of the window high up while I was out photographing and releasing the Orange Footman.

This year is beating the living daylights out of last year for moths: at this point last year I'd had 36 species and this year its now 62, and it wasn't for want of effort last year - just rubbish weather.

Anyway, trap was out again last night and once again it was "all change" with eight NFY present this morning.

NFY: 3 Brimstone Moths, Foxglove Pug, Narrow-winged Pug, Common Marbled Carpet, Light Brocade, Treble Lines, 2 Diamondback Moths and Syndemis musculana.

Also rans: A worn Great Prominent, 2 Esperia sulphurella, 4 Oak-tree Pugs, LBAM, 2 Orange Footman, Flame Shoulder, 2 Shuttle-shaped Dart, Early Grey and Tachystola acroxantha.

I had a Tachystola acroxantha yesterday in my flat in Worthing. I live on the 1st floor without a back garden these days so can't run a trap like I used to, but this species is one of the most numerous that flies through my open windows throughout the summer months (Square Spot Rustic about equal)
