Most unusual use for binoculars? (1 Viewer)

Finding Trout in freshwater streams.
Fish spotting is a time honoured use for binoculars: though I haven't used mine to observe trout, I can imagine that a good hatch on a productive trout stream/river would provide some wonderful observations. When targeting tuna binoculars are almost as vital as rod and reel. The times I've observed yellowfin leaping in pursuit of flying fish and giant bluefin surface-feeding have been as dramatic and exciting as any birdwatching I've ever done.

I have found flying fish a challenge to pick up and follow from a cruise-ship balcony in 10X, but neat when you find one before it plops back into the water. I never got a chance to try it with a wider-field 8X.

My home has several libraries with hundreds of books and 33 rpm records on shelving from floor to ceiling (10'). When locating a book or record I routinely use my Papillio II 6.5x21 to read the small printing on the spines. Hunting down a hidden book/record is remarkably easier than with the naked eye.

I also use the Papillio in antique shops and flea markets to scan items in the back of display cases. It's an invaluable companion.

Slightly painfull - I’ve used the papilio for helping me extract a bit of glass that I got stuck in my foot… worked perfectly, very good close focus.

I use them to see if my garden hose is discharging gray water to irrigate my bamboo grove way down at the corner of my back yard.
