Nikon 1 w/ 70-300 ? Anyone used this ? (2 Viewers)

Recently saw some internet threads about the old Nikon 1 system. Some suggested that of any 70-300 lens ever made, this tiny Nikon (which then has a 2.7x crop to yield a 180-810 equivalent AOV) is maybe the sharpest lens ever built. And the body and lens are postively tiny together weghing under 1k total. Curious if anyone here has any experience with this combo?

I saw that Thomas Stirr used to use this combo but switched a couple years back to the OM-1 EM1X - which is a relatively giant body.
Seems like if one placed low size and weight high on their want list, this combo could be very interesting. Its smaller and weighs less than the P950 and RX10 IV with a sensor the same size as the sony and maybe better glass than either with reach that splits the difference?

I was 100% convinced that I had answered this post already: difficulty with the nikon 1 system is the age, its been a long time since they were new. Therefore, sensor design is severely lacking if you can even find this now. If you do, it should be better than most bridge cameras.

After comparing the size of various kits using pxlmag.com - I've decided to give this Nikon 1 kit a try.
Placed an order on MPB.com for a used sample of each in good condition (they give 6 mos warranty, 14 day trial).

Effective Reach and weight of each system:
Nikon 1: 189-810 @ 838 g
OM-1: 200-800 @ 1,719 g
XH2: 150-600 @ 2,035 g
A7RV: 100-400 @ 2,118 g

Congratulations and good luck to you. Let us know how you get along with the system

Looking forwards to seeing some of your images with this cool little camera - and great lens - as well as hearing about your impressions of shooting with it. It's a legendary camera + lens combo in certain photographic circles... so Congratulations on picking it up!

I hope you have lots of fun, as bird photography should be!

How are things going with your new camera?

Lots of things going on. Have not been able to spend a lot of time with the kit.

I am surprised how heavy the lens is.
The lens is only compact in its retracted storage position, its much longer when opened for use.
The camera is truly tiny and light, and the grip is pretty good.

I am no expert, but a bit disappointed in the results I have gotten so far.
I might just prefer viewing and not photographing and documenting.
Need to spend more time.

Well, if you want to share results we can take a look at what can be done to get better results. Info like focal length, shutter speed, ISO, aperture would help.
