No location for Amesbury Night Heron? (1 Viewer)

Going to be driving past Amesbury today, was wondering if anyone had an actual location for the Black Crowned Nigh Heron reported yesterday in Amesbury as "immature photographed nearby" ? Unless it is actually hanging out on a main road

If not I guess I'll have to just take a wander around the river paths, but on footpathmap it seems like there is a fair area to cover. If anyone can suggest likely places or parking, that would be appreciated!

Hi SmithM and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

The pin on the Birdguides map shows it as being to the east of Pendragon Drive just north of the junction with Boscombe Road but I've no idea how accurate that is. No sighting reported today so far.

Yeh I have taken from the description of "nearby" that this isn't the location, or if it was it was a flyover and not much use anyway. Or possibly on private property that they don't want birders turning up to investigate. I'm sure if it was on that road someone would have reported by now.

If I'm feeling it I'll have a wander

Ha ok sorry about that! Thanks for the welcome! Probably a bit late joining tbh, could have been very useful this year, trying for the first time to get to 200 for the year, on 193 but a couple questionable ones like Ruddy Shelduck and the resident Orkney black swan. They count in my books but maybe not in everyone else's!

LOL Better late than never eh?

You've still a few months to go and the autumn migration is just about starting now, so you never know.

Fingers crossed! Still have a couple easyish ones to find that just require a drive, eg cirl bunting, but wouldn't mind getting some of the less common waders to take me over the threshold
