Northern Wild Frog Identification (1 Viewer)

I found a couple of these guys last fall and just found one in the garden today. I'm in the northern midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin area). I went on the DNR website and couldn't find anything that looked exactly like this guy, so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Below is a couple pictures of him. The one thing I do notice about these guys is they seem to be a much brighter shade of green than the other frogs I see around here, like the wood frogs.

So any help would be awesome, thanks ahead of time!

i've put a post on an amphibian forum to see if they can help, in my opinion this is an escapee specimen, as it doesn't seem to fit any north midwestern species.

I agree that an escapee is an extremely remote possibility. the folks over at this forum: http://www.caudata.org say it's a juvenile Hyla versicolor or chyrsocelis, it seems that it's very difficult to tell them apart by just looking at them at this stage of their development.

wow! you're right. It does look a lot like it. I wonder why some of them are gray and others are green. the one's we've been finding around here are all green, but they may just be standing out amongst the gray ones... I contacted the dnr to see if they had any ideas also. If it is an escape, i hope they're excited that we found them. :-D

Hyla versicolor basically means variable coloured treefrog. If you keep searching you'll find some grey ones and some that are somewhere inbetween.
