Heard this in the afternoon in Illinois. The call had the same pattern as a great horned owl but with four notes at first (DUH duh DUH DUH, DUH DUH, DUH), repeated it once and wasn't really hooting; it sounded more high-pitched and throatier, almost like a goose or a goat.
