Parrot in Italy (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

My sister is spending this semester in Italy and just sent me a picture of a parrot she saw. She saw it just south of Rome in Gaeta. I’m sorry I don’t have any info on the behavior or anything. I didn’t see the bird in my Collin's, so I'm guessing that it was an escape or a pet or something. Anyway, any id help would be appreciated. |=)|

Thanks so much!

Its defenitley an ezcape due to the ring on its leg and the chain, but i dont know what species. Look up something like pet parrots in google or another search engine. Ill try to find out.

Well, bands/rings don't necessarily indicate an escape... I spend 4-7 hours a day assisting the banding of migratory, perfectly wild birds.

However, the bird is clearly a New World parrot, and the photo being taken in the Old World narrows this bird down to being, as you say, an escape.

Yes, sure is a Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva). These are the most popular pet Amazon, and probably the most common. The bird looks in very good shape, so someone obviously cared about it. You might want to ask around and see if someone is missing their Blue-fronted Amazon. :)

EDIT: If you look closely, the chain is tied to a nearby tree/plant, so this is probably not an escape, but a pet bird that is "tied up" outside.
