Pigeons nesting near Bluetits (1 Viewer)

My Mum has a bird box on her 2nd floor balcony with bluetits currently in it. She also has an empty window box that a pigeon has started showing interest in and looks like it's possibly building a nest. The bluetits don't seem to be as active when the pigeon is there - will they get used to it and continue to feed their young, or will the pigeon make them abandon the nest? When do pigeons normally lay eggs? Is it better to remove the window box so that the pigeon cannot nest and hope that it finds a suitable alternative soon....I don't want to be cruel and chase the pigeon away but I also don't want to ruin the bluetits chances of survival.

First off, welcome to the forum. As far as your question, I’m really not sure I can help. If the pigeons are just now building the nest, and it has no eggs in it, I would remove the window box if possible. They will then look for another place. Good luck.

Thanks, I have removed the box - there was only a couple of twigs in it so hopefully they hadn't completely set their minds on it being their new nest. Feel guilty but the bluetits are now in and out of their box all the time now, and hopefully the pigeons will find somewhere safe to nest.
