Poets Like Francis Ledwidge (1 Viewer)

Poets like Francis Ledwidge have always been rare
He has been referred to as the Irish John Clare
Because of his love of Nature his poems read far and wide
Far from his home Village of Slane and his home Countryside.

He died as a young man in World war one
So many must die for a war to be won
And though with the best of his time he does rate
He could have lived to become a poetic great.

His genius was cut off in it's flowering prime
And yet his poems withstand the great test of time
His poems have been published by Alice Curtayne
She honours the memory of the Poet of Slane.

In the literary World he had made his name
But he did not live on for to enjoy his fame
Like millions of others war did claim him young
Though his praises by literary critics are sung.

Poets like Francis Ledwidge are born not made
And his legacy of beauty in centuries will not fade
From his beloved Village he died far away
But his poems loved and read and recited today.
