Portable generator recommendations (1 Viewer)

Having been confined to trapping in my garden, I've had another injection of enthusiasm following a trip out for a National Moth Night event.

With next year in mind, I'd be grateful if more experienced BFers could give some tips or recommendations about the portable generators they use. A quick trawl of the popular suppliers reveals there's a few models on offer, Tiger, Stephill and Honda

All are expensive, some very expensive, so I'd like some advice before taking the plunge.

Have a look at Screwfix, I think it is made by Wolf. It is only £70 and it is meant to be really good.

My local Focus DIY had a generator on the shelves yesterday for £59.99. It may be worth checking your local Focus shop. Check before you buy a 'jenny' some run on straight petrol, some may use 2 stroke fuel, i.e. petrol/oil mixture.

Saw some Generators on sale for less than £60 at Macro - Nantgarw - just down the road from you Trealaw Boy, perhaps they are still available, I saw them during the summer and considered one myself, they looked very good value for money.

Hope this info is of use.

PS. Found any Quail this year....

Yes i was going to mention this. It looks like good value petrol oil mix jenny ;)
You'll need to be quick though I think they will sell out quickly.

Just thought I'd mention that I have given this unit a try.
I went out the Monday after the Sunday special and there was still a healthy stack of them in the shop. It was a few days until I could try it out, but when I did get around to it, I could not get even a spark (pun intended) of life out of it.
Aldi were very obliging in letting me swap the defective unit for another one, but as yet I have not got anything out of that one either! Interestingly, the guys in the shop said that they had had a few back as defective.
I'm not too worried yet though, I will give the shop another go tomorrow and if no luck there I will send it back to Wolf to be fixed under the 3 year guarantee.
I know plenty of other people using Wolf generators who have not had any problems. I don't see why these particular units should be a problem so I am hoping I am just unlucky!

Regards,
Wendelio.

As a Post Script to the above: After some careful checking with multimeters and fixing some loose connections I have the thing running fine. The support phone line man was very helpful and explained that it is not uncommon for a connection to work loose during transit.
