Trindade Petrel Pterodroma arminjoniana Giglioli & Salvadori, 1869
Vice-Admiral Vittorio Arminjon (1830–1897) was the first Italian to circumnavigate the globe, which he did (1865) as captain of the warship Magenta, which, incidentally, is also commemorated in a bird – the Magenta Petrel Pterodroma magentae. Enrico Giblioli was in charge of the scientific aspects of the voyage.

Vice-Adm. Vittorio Arminjon (1830-1897) Italian Navy, explorer (Pterodroma).

Björn recently reported that Mearns & Mearns 2022 have him as:
Vittorio Arminjon (1830–1897), ..."... was the naval commander entrusted with the Italian navy’s first round-the-world-voyage. ..."

So no doubt it is him Annuario Geografico statistica
Vittorio Arminjon b. 9 October 1830 in Chambéry (France but looks like at that time Italian or Kingdom of Sardinia) d. 4. February 1897 in Genoa

The only thing I am wondering is that we can find him many times as Vittorio F. Arminjon. It somehow fits to the frontpage Il Giappone e il viaggio della corvetta Magenta nel 1866 per V. F. Arminjon

So from Filae and https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/14693884.pdf p. 56 I would say he was baptized as
Cfr. A. FRANCIONI, Il Trattato Italo-Cinese del 1866nelle carte dell’ammiraglio Arminjon, in Working Paper n. 46 del Dipartimento di Scienze Storiche,Giuridiche, Politiche e Sociali dell’Università degli Studi di Siena, 2003; E. H. GIGLIOLI, Viaggiointorno al globo della r. pirocorvetta italiana Magenta, Milano 1876.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong with anything. P.S. Did not find him in archive en ligne yet.

Just for the sake of clarity ...

Mearns and Mearns (2022) does/doesn't mention any Second/Middle Given name (and no French version of it), they only tell us:
Vittorio Arminjon
(1830–1897)
Vittorio Arminjon was the naval commander entrusted with the Italian navy’s first round-the-world voyage. He was born 9 October 1830 at Chambéry, at that time part of the Kingdom of Sardina, controlled by the House of Savoy from Turin, but now in the Département de Savoie, France. When he was twelve, his father, a Savoyard senator, placed him in the naval school at Genua where he became an officer five years later. He served in the Crimea campaign and shortly after his marriage in 1859 had a short spell in the French navy. He returned to the Italian navy on the unification of Italy in 1861 ...
[...]
... and at the age of 47 rose to the rank of vice-admiral. On leaving the navy he remained at Genoa and died there on 5 February 1897, aged 66. ...
[...]

And, Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (Volume 4, 1962, here) has him as (nothing but):
ARMINJON, Vittorio
[...]
Nato a Chambéry il 9 ott. 1830, ...
[...]
...morte, avvenuta a Genova il 5 febbr. 1897, ...
[...]

The same goes for the Italian Wikipedia (here, though, with a different Death date, at least in the beginning):
Vittorio Arminjon
[...]
Vittorio Arminjon (Chambéry, 9 ottobre, 1830 – 4 febbraio 1897) è stato un ammiraglio, esploratore e scrittore italiano.

Biografia
Arminjon nacque a Chambéry dal senatore Mathias Arminjon e Henriette Dupy. ...

[...]
Morì a Genova il 5 febbraio 1897.
But ... note that in the summary [of facts], to the right of the exact same page, (also) does say: "Morte: Genova, 5 febbraio 1897" ... !?!

As well compare with French Wikipedia (here), which is more consistent (at least regarding the exact dates):
Victor Arminjon, en italien Vittorio Arminjon, est un officier de la Marine Royale Italienne né à Chambéry le 9 octobre 1830 et mort le 4 février 1897 à Gênes.

Biografie
Victor-François Arminjon naît le 9 octobre 1830 à ...

[...]
Victor Arminjon meurt le 4 février 1897 à Gènes
The latter text is mostly based on Général Borson's (long and detailed) Notice nécrologique sur le contre-amiral Victor Arminjon 1830–1897 (here), pp.171, 173–198 (dated "11 mars 1897").

Which exact Death day is fully correct is unknown to me ...

Either way, hopefully all (or parts) of the above might be of some help.

Good luck finding the official records (of both his Birth and Death)!

/B
