RAW software for Macs? (1 Viewer)

Hi

I'm about to make the leap to shooting RAW and am wondering what software other Mac users favour?

Paul

I have an iMac running OS-X 10.5.1 (Leopard). I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 extended. Previous to that on my G4 I had run Photoshop 7, jpeg only. Unfortunately all the earlier versions of Photoshop, including those with RAW plug ins will not run on Leopard, nor will Photo Elements. Check the latest information on the Adobe website over abilities to run on Leopard..

The latest Canon Digital Professional which comes with Canon Cameras will work with Leopard, this is now a surprisingly good program, and as it is free, compared with the very high price of CS3, is well worth trying. You may find it has all the facilities you need for processing your RAW images. Out of interest, I downloaded a trial copy of Capture One, which worked and Bibble which didn't, though the makers insist it will work with Leopard. I know both these programs have their followers.

Of course if you are still running OS-X 10.4

And some Mac users say Aperture has become quite good...

Photoshop is OK if you don't have too many files to process. Lightroom if you do and Aperture if you have a fast Mac (+powerful graphics processor) and lots of files.

Lightroom here as you need a lot of horsepower for aperture, however the loope toolin aperture is FAB, so much so that they integrated it into ACR-bridge for CSIII
i refuse to upgrade to CSIII as CSII doesn't support the new raw files from the Canon mkIII and they have no plans to support them in the future either. I think its bad form after forking out nearly a grand 11 month prior for the whole suite. hence the switch to lightroom, which incidently is spot on!

Cannot you upgrade to CS3 fairly cheaply. One reason that I expect they are not upgrading CS2 for Canon Mk III is that CS2 won't run on OS-X 10.5, and CS3 has a particularly good new RAW plug in, which will not work with CS2

Hi Paul,
I tried Lightroom, Canons own DPP RAW software and PS3 combined with Adobe Bridge and I've settled for the latter.
Canons software was very good. Lightroom I found too slow to get the images into the machine, so I went back to Adobe Bridge, opening into PS3 running on the Leopard OS.

Ive only just got a mac and leopard, so am trying to see what works lol

I just downloaded Bibble pro which does work now, and seems ok actually, lightroom flies on my macbook pro and used to run like a 3 legged donkey on my old pc which wasnt a slow machine ! photoshop is my favourite so far because i am used to it i guess, aperture came on the Mac as 30 day trial and i just cant get on with it. The Canon software for something thats free is pretty good also !
