Dan - I hope I didn't offend you - I was just kidding.
I seem to be doing that online of late - offending people - but I don't mean to. Sorry.

I think we all could use a birding fix. I sure have the winter blahs. What I could use is some kind of birding class, on line. Any possibilities?
Glad to hear you are driving again Dan, but be careful!

Diane - I've been trying to attach a digital to message and fianally got explanation that my file photo is too large - how do shrink it? Sara

Sara - if you want to send them to me, I can reduce them and post them. I haven't checked that email address I used to use before lately but you could send them there - [email protected]

Do you just save them right from scanning? If you have an option in your program, you want the resolution to be 72 pixels/inch. That's standard for pictures on the web.

Great site Diane - finally identified my warbler as a yellow throat - not myrtle. He's out of area for winter - looks like he got left behind. He certainly is a bright spot in my day when I see him.

Imagine seeing a yellow-throat this time of the year. That's what I love about birding-there are always surprises. Our storm hits tonight-hope I see something new tomorrow.

was out birding at Blue marsh lake today Had a steady stream of snow geese flying over head. It seemed they were headed to Middlecreek wildlife management area there was no way to count them the sky was filled. The parade lasted 33 minutes and then some small flocks of about 100-200 still streamed by I would have to guess maybe 80,000-100,000 geese.I was at Middlecreek on Friday they estimated about 65,000 snow geese It was quite impressive when two Bald Eagles flew in the whole lake erupted it sounded like a jet taking off. It's been a good year for Rough-legged hawks many have been reported in eastern Pennsylvania. This has been a very enjoyable winter I think I birded more this winter than any other.I am looking forward to spring warblers.http://www.takeawalk.com/A5580D/tawhome.nsf/Middlecreek?OpenPage&Click=

Someone here was just telling me about rough legged hawks here too. Wish I could have seen those snow geese, Joe.

I just received a LATE Christmas gift (back-ordered) -
a huge coffee table type book Wings of Migration. It is full of magnificant photography - many fold out pages. I received the DVD earlier on same subject. Both will be well used - I recommend them highly.

Dear Ama:

BWD is sponsoring a screening of Winged Migration in Marietta OH in March. I can post details if you're interested.

Your birding sounds exciting, Bluesboy. Snow geese-I wonder if they ever pass my way? Speaking of eagles-last Sunday we went to the Bear Mt. Lookout that just opened(after repairs). They have some unfo about the bald eagles that winter there and other info about Iona Is. We saw about 6 or so at the lookout and then we drove back to Iona. Over there we enjoyed watching more bald eagles. They were flying almost right above us. They are huge. At times, in flight, they looked like planes. While we were at the lookout, there were a pair of bluebirds hanging out about 25 feet away. It was a great morning. :D

Was crossing the Wabash River this afternoon in West Lafayette, and spied a mature bald eagle just rising from the water with a prize in his talons! Whee! What a gorgeous sight!

Then stopped by a couple little fishing lakes (used to be gravel quarries) and was treated to 49 sandhill cranes heading north (LOVE to hear them!!!) and 19 turkey vultures soaring nearby. And a male eastern bluebird!

Sings SPRING to me!!!

Just got home from several days in La Crescent, Minnesota, visiting my daughter and her husband.....and we saw bald eagles....GALORE!!!

Seems at this particular time of the year the bald eagles are just everywhere around the Mississippi and surrounding little tributaries and wetlands....we counted 20 mature eagles at one little lake-like place....they were mostly sitting on the ice close to the open water and the shore was becoming littered with partially eaten fish!

This morning as I careened down I-90 on my way out of town, I counted 24 adults either perching in trees along the road or sitting on the receding ice....what a spectacular sight! This was along about a half mile of wet area. Amazing!

I've tried to post a newspaper article to no avail. It was about a Cooper's Hawk who flew into HOme Depot chasing a pigeon and has taken up residence in the 25ft high ceiling picking off their 15+ pigeon population - devouring them in front of aghast customers!! Location - North Olmstead ,OH - might be worth a drive to see him - wonder how he'll get out - do automatic doors works as fast as flight?
