Ring-necked duck? China (1 Viewer)

My friend took this photo in December 2014 at Qingdao, Shandong province, and today he found out there is a very special duck, could it be a female ring-necked duck? If it is, it may be a new record for China, and that's the only clear picture left.
Thank you!

Thank you!!! A new record for China:love::D:)
Here in central Japan (Kansai, Osaka-Kyoto-Nara) there is usually a Ring-necked Duck somewhere each year. I'm surprised that it's not the same in eastern China. How surprising that this should be a first record for China. Well done your friend. Since this was in 2014, have there been no records since then?

I saw this bird in a pond in Osaka in 2019 along with an American Wigeon (which has recently been an annual visitor to this pond). The strange thing is that this isn't some wild water, but a pond only about 200m by 100m surrounded by a low fence and a concrete path on a small park which is part of a housing development, mostly apartment blocks.

Today is Chinese New Year, I wish you all a Happy New Year!
And a very Happy New Year to you also.

Let's hope that the time when we can visit each other again is getting closer! My wife and I had done a lot of foreign trips over the last ten years, especially to Africa and Australia (we went to China several times in the late 1990s and early 2020s, but before I had taken up birding - my Japanese wife loves Chinese food).

We have never been locked down in Japan, and so we can travel inside the country, and we have taken pleasure in visiting local places which we had been ignoring in recent years because of our foreign travel. And we remembered that there is a lot of beauty close to home also. So, it's not all bad.

Keep birding!

Yes MacNara, this is the only record of Ring-necked duck in mainland China. It seems easy to see some North American birds in Japan, but the chances of them coming to China seem to be very, very small
Keep birding!:giggle:
