Does stunning summer plumaged Long-billed Dowitcher count as a good bird

The Long-billed Dowitcher has not been seen since 10:00 this morning so the reserve will not be opening late this evening. There are plenty of viewing opportunities along the road, where it was initially first seen, so hopefully it will be picked up. We will look again in the morning from the hide and update via the news services asap.

The Long-billed Dowitcher that was on the Wet Grassland yesterday is now on Back Salthome. Hopefully it will show itself a little better over the Jubilee long weekend than it did during it's last stay.

4 tern day yesterday from the Cafe! Our usual Common Terns, a couple of Sandwich Terns, 1st year Arctic Tern and a cracker of a Roseate Tern. June is always a good month for terns so worth giving Paddy's a good grilling over the next few weeks and scanning the main pool when you're tucking into breakfast.

It's our 4th in two years! Any other site have such good record for this species recently?

It was still there on Monday but I've not checked for it since then. Mostly it's been on Saltholme east pond, but very very occasionally it's crossed the road to the west pond.
East and west Saltholme pools lie either side of the A178 Seaton Carew Road.
The east pond can only be viewed from the roadside. There's a big layby/bus stop to park in at the southern end of it.
The west pond can be viewed from the roadside anytime of day or from Saltholme hide when the reserve is open.

From 11-3 in the Wildlife Watchpoint this weekend we will be running our optics weekend. You will be able to try out a range of optics in the field, providing side by side comparisons. We will also have the brand new Swarovski telescope and Zeiss Conquest binoculars available for you to try with advice for novices and experts alike from Adam our optics advisor. If you're thinking of updating your current kit or maybe fancy treating yourself for Christmas, come and get some ideas with us this weekend.

We have set up a viewpoint in Haverton Scrub as we currently have Long-eared Owls. With the recent disturbance issues of Barn Owls on Greenabella Marsh this decision wasn't as straightforward as it maybe should have been.
Please respect on site instructions and when you're down at the viewpoint the welfare of the bird is paramount. Respect your fellow owl watchers by not standing in front of them/stabbing them in the foot/generally being selfish.
These birds are well hidden and will not make great pictures so please don't arrive expecting anything more than record shots.
