Edit:- there were two birds in 2010 no dates, and I missed the 2014 record off the list
Whimbrel
Up till 1999 there had been 20+ records with most of them falling in April/May.The largest flock recorded was Twenty birds on the grassy banks at Swan Pool on the 5th May 1994. Since then we have had birds has follows:-
2000, 29th April x2.
2000, 5th May x1.
2001, 25th April x1.
2002, 1st May x1.
2009, 1st May x1
2009, Sept x1.
2010, March x2.
2014, 10th April x1.
2016, 25th April x1.

The all dayer is only a week away Saturday 7th May, several people have told me they will be in the Valley on the day but it would be good if we had an idea now many people will be taking part and what times they will be in the Valley, possibly the areas that intend on covering would also be of benefit.

We had 110 species in April the main Highlights being, a Mealy Redpoll was seen at the Feeding station for over a week, we had our first April record of Common Scoter and is still on Forge Mill on its 25th day, a female Marsh Harrier paid us a brief visit, our only Dunlin of the year so far was seen at Swan Pool and a Whimbrel spent a short time at Forge Mill.

I'm leading the dawn chorus walk tomorrow morning so there is every chance during that. But my birding time has been cut due to illness this weekend - the walk should be a great laugh with a voice like a chainsaw!

My 1st ever visit to the RSPB reserve today. In addition to the Common Scoter on the lake, there was a Lesser Redpoll visiting the feeding station which I thought was a bit late.

Failed on the gropper this morning. Got 8 warbler species around Forge Mill Lake but no gropper. Maybe around Swan Pool but I was in no state to go wandering over there today. At least 3 sedge warblers singing and 2+ reed warblers as well as a singing lesser whitethroat and great views of a garden warbler as I walked home after the dawn chorus walk.
