We are from Madrid, so the objective of the trip was to see marine birds and wetland birds we are not able to see where we live.
This was a group trip organized by our local university birding club.
We arrived on the 8th to Playa de langre around 3 pm for a walk. We were lucky to catch some greater white-fronted goose in flight, a common scooter in the sea, and a little gull. The full list of species goes as follows:

At nightfall we headed to our accommodation, a public hostel right in the middle of Santoña marsh.
We started the 9th checking the marsh around 9 am just from the doorstep of the Albergue Juvenil the Santoña, our accommodation.

Next we went to Montehano shortly after where we were lucky enough to get pretty close with some common loon and we also spotted some red throated loons.

Then we went to la arenilla to spend the afternoon birdwatching there. It is a good time to note that most of the people in this trip where non birders and this was a great place to teach them how to identify a lot of the waterfowl. The star of the show here was the common eider.

After that we finished our morning, ate and went to la Ria de Treto as our last stop from the day. Here we found a common Murre in the in the water tangled to some fishing line, after a while it washed ashore and we picked it up and left him in a wildlife rehab. It was released back into nature almost a month later. We also saw a couple of greater scaups, those were a lifer for almost everyone in the trip.

The trip was organized in individual cars, it had around 20 participants and gas plus accommodation was around 60 euros per person.
Half of the people in that trip weren’t birders, they knew almost nothing about birds and picked up the hobby from there. This was in general a great trip.
