Scotland - new member, help needed! (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I hope im posting this in the right section, am new to this forum after just finding it on google, if not in right place could someone move it to the relevant forum, cheers. A few days ago I noticed loud chirping/tweeting coming from my loft, ive just been up there now to inspect and found a nest with multiple birds in it. Can someone identify what breed these birds are from my pic? its not the best I know, from googling the closest match I can find is Starlings. They're making a lot of noise, I did some googling and it appears I cant do anything until these birds leave the nest, how long are we talking for that, could it be months? any information is appreciated as im totally clueless when it comes to birds, cheers

Unfortunately posting pictures of nests are forbidden here but I guess the situation is somehow special. Thes young Starlings will leave the nest in a week or two.

Hi Cooper and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. You may not realise that Starlings are classed as a vulnerable species now as their numbers are falling drastically due to habitat loss and also the lack of suitable places to breed.

They are cheeky wee devils and can be quite amusing to watch. If you value your lawn, they specialise in extracting the larva of crane flies (which at that stage eat the grass roots). They will also mainly eat insects that are harmful to crops and other garden plants too. You can read more about them in our Opus article: Common Starling - BirdForum Opus
