Early morning, couple hours after sunrise. Coastal wetland bordered by city golf course (hence the chain-link fence). Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline, San Leandro, CA.

What kind of bird is this, and how did you make the determination?

Another for Californian Towhee. As for how its identified. The rather featureless 'face' and body but with a slightly buffy throat and, just observable, greyish centre to the breast coupled with the shape of the bill, typical of Towhees.

My initial, early morning thought for this bird was Brown-headed Cowbird ... but then I became a little more awake I concurred that the bird was a California Towhee!

Good Morning All, I am awake now!
