Song Sparrow? (San Leandro, CA, USA) (1 Viewer)

I'm a bit new to bird IDs, could use a hand with this one.

I want to say the photo attached is of either a female Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia), or a juvenile Song Sparrow of unknown gender.

Taken in San Leandro, California (Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline).

Is this little fellow also a Song Sparrow, just different color, or a different species?

The previous one was brown/tan, this one darker, grey/dark-brown. Markings seem the same otherwise (to my amateur eyes).

Yes. It's also a Song Sparrow. Probably a different subspecies than your first bird; there are a number of different subspecies in California. The dark brown coloration of the second individual is characteristic of west coast individuals--we don't get those in the east.

Best,
Jim
