I'm presuming so and have put them in my Spam box, but before I do the final deed thought I'd pass it by you lot to see what you make of it.

I got an email (no subject) from [email protected] - which was sent to about 20 people with similar looking email addresses but 3 of them were Birdforum members.

It had a New year flashing fireworks card on it.

I spammed it but within minutes I received another card, again no subject but this time had an attachment, which I didn't open.

It was from [email protected] again with a load of reciptients including the same two BF members.

The went into Spam too.

Before I do the final deed of deleting, thought I'd ask if anyone can throw any light on them. If you agree they are spam and is there someone to report these to, like with the spam texts you get on the phone?

Vzwpix is a service from the US mobile phone network Verizon that lets people text (SMS) to a email address. The number before the @ is the phone number that sent it to you, check the number against your contacts to see if it is from anyone you know.

The trouble is that spammers will often spoof the "from" email address to make it look like the message is from someone else. Your emails might be genuine new year greetings from someone stateside but most likely they are spam and there will be some hidden link somewhere.

Thanks Mono.

I don't have any phone numbers for people in the States (that I can see anyway) and certainly not for the two that are listed in the recipients. I guessed it was coming from the states, as most of the recipients had US server addresses like Veriozon.

I'll contact them to see if they have received these emails too.

Hi Eranou

Thanks for responding. I did sort it out in the end. It was from a member here, and we do swap emails. I don't have his phone number which is what caused me to be so confused.

Eventually I thought, if it's anyone I know in the States, it's got to be him. So asked him and it was LOL.
