Sparrow-like bird, streaked, forked tail, VT (1 Viewer)

While taking a walk today with my dogs I saw this bird in a tree overhead. Any idea what it could be?

Looks like a female Purple Finch to me - short, notched tail; heavy, chunky body; heavy bill; whitish throat; and rather well-defined streaking on the underparts.

Did you notice if it had a white supercillium? That would rule out House Finch. But the deeply notched tail looks good for Purple Finch.

No, I never got a chance to really look at it. I saw the bird and had just enough time to take the picture.

Lack of streaking in the undertail coverts also indicate purple finch.
