Starlings helped Robins (1 Viewer)

I saw a hawk yesterday trying to get a Robin’s nest, the Robin parents were carrying on and calling loudly. Here came a pack of other neighborhood birds mostly Starlings that came to help chase away the hawk. When the Hawk flew away, the birds gave chase. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Was pretty cool to see. Has anyone else seen this before?

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

I’ve not seen that particular behaviour.

Hi, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. Seen a lot of harassing by other birds to hawks, but away from the nest, so not sure of a different type.

I have not seen this particular behaviour- usually mobbing calls and mobbing would be directed at birds like cuckoos, who are only a threat to eggs, not adults. It does sound like mobbing though. Some birds will mob predatory species, but it is not well documented.
