They used to sell these. But they have been discontinued.

Hello everybody from Europe- Romania
I also own a Steiner MM 10x50. bought it fron a german website, 350 euro, pretty cheap I would say. It is the same size as the 7x50.
Few impressions:
  • the strap supplied is a bit narrow, I'm thinking of buying a genuine military one or make one myself. 3cm wide.
  • the caps are great, protect the lenses verry well. BTW, I ordered some spare parts(objective covers, eye shields)that came free of charge from Steiner Germnay. A big + for them.
  • the factory told me that a tripod adapter could be mounted but I have to send the binocular to them. I think if you build your own adapter at a lathe machine you could mount it for yourself
  • rubber eyecups can be folded, wich is great for glass wearers
  • the BaK 4: I dont know. I'm a bit sceptic. When I close my eyes to the oculars, 10cm, there is a haze around the exit pupil, not present at other binoculars that I own(IOR 7x10, zeiss deltrentis 8x30, komz 8x30). I will make a picture to show you
  • in the night when I look al a street light pole there are some circular reflection that bother me. Again, the IOR is flawless at this chapter
  • again, the night lights, led's or incandescent lights do not produce those rays/spikes, wich is a good thing
  • the field of view is decent, it could be better
  • the binocular is compact, wich I like very much
  • they have a good grip in the hand
  • the original pouch/bag is a total crap. An advice: if you mount the bag strap, leave it there forever. If you remove it the plastic buckle will get loose and will fall out. Every Steiner 8x30 from my job lost their bag strap that way. I hope to find hard neoprene case, or to use one made by Hama
  • the field depth could be a little bigger. Who owns a IOR knows what I mean
  • the neoprene cover is trully great, I hope to buy one or to diy one
  • about the plastic body, I hope not to damage them so I have to send them for repair. If it was metal for sure they they would had 1.5kg

Photos will come soon.
ps: please excuse the spelling mistakes if are present :)

So I asked Steiner about their prism glass used by them. And here is the answer:
"Dear Cornel,
You will not find any informations regarding prisms because prisms, lences etc.
These are our (Steiner) patented products and we are not allowed to give any information about these parts.
Best regards
-Customer-Service-"
And here is a photo taken on a distance of few cm from eyecups. The second one is taken with a russian 8x30 from 1974.

Maybe I got a bad unit but just as a cautionary head's up:

I got an 8x25 MM porro a couple of years ago. I was really attracted by the looks and the small 8x25 configuration in a standard porro design. CF is surprisingly good for an IF model. Very well built and handle like a dream. But the optics lag way behind in that the image is quite dull. They are noticeably inferior in performance to my Steiner 8x22 Ultrasharp roof which cost @ half as much.

That said, it's good to know that members here are enjoying the larger and apparently much better versions.

For marine use any 7x50 waterproof bino will works as well as any other. One needs to be able at night to spot hazards and navigation aids and color fidelity or high resolving capabilities are not important in such situations.

They are big, chunky, and relatively heavy. But the views are quite good. The "Sports Auto Focus" marketing term, is just that. Marketing. Everything beyond about 60 feet is in focus, and anything closer, you just turn the individual focusers. I guess they thought they had to call it something. I followed some squirrels gathering nuts across the road, and I didn't need to refocus as they went from yard to yard. I watched a hummingbird on my feeder with a quick adjustment, at 15 feet or so. Then I returned the focusers to my marks, and bam, SPORTS AUTO FOCUS. Colors and contrast are great.

They are sharp almost to the edge of the view when reading small print on a sign that's 100 yards away, and there is no noticeable CA. I didn't notice any distortion when looking at a fence across the road. Eye relief is perfect for me, a non eyeglass wearer, with the rubber cups out. Not what I'd call a wide angle view, but what is in the view is presented very well.

The rubber wetsuit cover thingy works well. But they also have a pretty nice camo case with shoulder strap.

TIme will tell how they hold up. But they have a lifetime warranty, and I doubt that they will be going out of business any time soon.

Nice bins , I’ve had these for 30 years moving them from boat to boat. They have lived in each boat summer and winter all year long , and after I sold my last boat they’ve been in the trunks of my cars for the last five years. Everything still works, the binoculars have been in all kinds of weather conditions, the coatings are perfectly intact and these probably will last another 20 years. These are over built and underpriced.

I’m a big fan of the 7x50 Steiner MM. these are the bins that got me into bins and I now even have a Leica Noctivid 10x42.

I got the MMs to live on my boat, funny enough I got them for spotting birds before I was even into birding. I was looking for birds that eat the small fish and the big fish follow the small fish. That interest in fishing is what got me into birding.

The sport focus is great for boating I will mention, when I’m several miles off shore, navigating my boat as well managing my fishing lines it’s nice to just pick up the bins and look through to see everything in focus with out having to think at all or worry about the distance. Because when I’m panning the area I’m glassing the depth of field difference can be huge.

Worth noting the strap is does come with stinks and I bought the peak design strap. I never bother with the case and leave the bins in my boat no case just with caps. It’s get beat up and hit with salt spray all the time and I just give it a quick rinse and holds up nicely.

Even as I have gone down the rabbit hole of higher quality optics and understanding the differences, I’m still happy with the Steiner’s and they do a great job as my dedicated boat binoculars.

And too think I only bought just because some random guy I was talking to at my marina was very bullish that these binoculars were essential for fishing more so than my fancy radar that can track birds(that radar makes Noctivids look cheap :))
