struggling with gulls (1 Viewer)

Hello
I really struggle with gulls. Are the gulls black-headed gulls or little gulls and how do I tell in future?
Taken a week ago in Devon UK.

Most of them are Black-headed Gulls, with some Common Gulls in the largest group. No Little Gulls.

Careful use of a good fieldguide will let you sort them out, though the range of species and age plumages makes gulls one of the more difficult groups. Good luck.

 

[Welsh Peregrine]

Little Gulls are tern sized, and much rarer than Black-headed gulls. Adults have distinctive black underwings.

The Cornell Merlin guide that uses bird calls can be useful and worth a try. I get 18 species during the year where I live and one can only be identified by a careful examination of its butt and I am not that concerned about the ID.
