I was wondering about the transition from early-roof Trilytes to the 825 Audubon, so I picked up a 715 by FPO (B8), also 7x,35. I don't understand roof prism systems, but these seem to be a different set-up from other (longer) Trilytes that have passed through my hands. Does any of you know which system was used?
For the curious, close focus is an appalling 28' so I won't be using them for bush birding, but they are noticeably sharp and the focus wheel travels only 135 degrees (half of which is for following Buckaroo Bonzai into the eighth dimension). I suspect these were designed for stadium sports (close focus on my 825 is 13' and on the 825R an astounding 4 feet, so Swift figured out what to ask for). Depth of field for the 715 at stadium distance is magnificent, and I suspect I'll be scanning a lot of geese through these.
The button at the front of the axle says "Ultrar 7x RLE 41.8" but I don't know if Ultrar is a Swift thing or a Fuji thing. Answers? The date of these is 1980.
