Swifts (1 Viewer)

We have a single swift that seems to have been left behind as all others have gone - migrated to Africa, we live in Gibraltar and every year they return in their hundreds. They nest on our balcony but this year a sole swift seems alone. It just keeps flying back and forth to the nest looking for the others. We have lived here 4 years and this is the first time we have observed this, most have gone by week 3 August. Nothing much we can do I know, but any insight would be helpful.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

I’m afraid I have no answers.

Hi Chris and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Sorry I can't explain this, seems rather strange. However, Swifts are hard-wired to migrate, so hopefully he will be on his way soon.

Could you let us know what the outcome is if you can?

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
