Hi David,

We stayed in Puerto de la Cruz a good few years back. It's certainly the greener part of the Island. I'm afraid that I wasn't doing much birding back then. Lorro Parque ( Parrot Park) is on the western edge of the town and whilst not cheap the wildlife was amazing. We got went mid day and spent the afternoon there, but could quite easily have spent the whole day. I dare say it's still on the go. The park caters for wild birds as well as captive with plenty of other wildlife including several participation displays eg Penguins, Dolphins, Parrots etc.

I hope you enjoy the holiday there, we certainly did.

I also remember a prominent court case a few years ago when one of the directors of Loro Parque was convicted of smuggling one of the world's most endangered parrots (Hyacinthine Macaw if I remember right) from the wild - I wouldn't visit the place.
