Professor Dr Alfred Voeltzkow (1860-1847) was a German palaeontologist, collector, traveller and zoologist who spent many years in East Africa. He travelled in Zanzibar and Pamba (1889-1895), was in the Comoro Islands (1906) and at some stage visited the island of Aldabra. His East African collection is in the Natural History Museum in Vienna. A mammal is named after him.
