Geoffrey, sorry to re-open this old topic, but I just realized (after having read some of Fred's many threads) that I caused some kind of mess in this particular one.
Just to make things a bit clearer, and/or the conversation in this thread slightly more understandable ... for you and everyone else (except for me and Fred, of course), simply to avoid possible confusion, of what's been written in this thread.
Fred is not mixed up, nope, not at all (that would be an opinion more appropriate to me!). Fred didn't confuse you with someone else (read; me) when he replied with the phrase; "Hi Björn" (in post #4). His response was only due to the fact that I (the very same morning) shortly before his reply, had posted a (very short-lived) response to your initial request, that I deleted just minutes later, simply as it turned out to that I had completely misunderstood your first post, believing you were looking for the "earliest" Authorship" of a, or any, known, verified, established, certified "piciform" bird (as in; when it was published, not when it was once Alive).
Unfortunately Fred had already replied (to me) when I pressed the 'Delete button', and (for some reason) he didn't delete the "Hi Björn" part (itself) in his justified and explanatory post.
Sorry for the mess! My bad.
Either way: Good luck with your book about
Picidae Woodpeckers (... or even all the
Piciformes).
If you're not already finished with it (by now), of course.
Björn
