This may be controversial or offensive to some. (1 Viewer)

But does anyone know or could recommend sites in the East Midlands where small birds happily come down and perch in your hand to feed from?

I remember years ago going with friends family to somewhere in the Derbyshire dales where there were a number of Robins/tits/finches coming down and eating seed out of people’s hands. I know some may frown upon that sort of behaviour but to me it would offer a very positive experience to small children to get them interested in the world of birds/nature.

Thanks. ☺️

This would give children a distorted perspective about wild life. It is why we have people injured or killed taking selfies with bison and elk and elephants.

More important is to take away smartphones and other electronic devices and expose children to nature - directly. In general when out in a natural area I see children with their earbuds in their ears and they miss 100% of the natural sounds around them and their parents might just as well have stayed at home.

I’m asking for places where you can feed birds weighing about the same as a sheet of paper mate. Not to go and stick my daughter’s head in the jaws of an alligator. Not sure how you’ve made such a jump!

The best way to get people excited and interested in nature is surely to go and experience it within natures setting in a responsible and respectful way!
