Thrush Ecuador (Wild Sumaco) (1 Viewer)

Taken in Wildsumaco in September.
It looks like it has a Pale bill. We only recorded Black-billed Thrush during our stay. I know we briefly discussed this bird even in the field but then put it away as another Black-billed. But is Black-billed allowed to show such a yellowish bill?

Well it looks a bit like Varzea thrush. This supposedly doesn't occur in Ecuador, although there's a Xeno Canto recording from there. On the other hand, iirc black-billed thrush can exhibit a more or less yellowy bill, like this:

I suspect this is what you're seeing here but it's a pity we don't have a clearer view of the throat and vent. If I can remember back to 2013 correctly, I think I was surprised by the sheer variety of black-billed thrushes in Bolivia where individuals were different enough for me to think (momentarily) that I was seeing a different species.

I think Varzea is certainly out of range here. Only option would be white-throated, but there the eye ring should be visible. I would agree with you it is just a little bit strange looking Black-billed (sadly) :).
