Timberhonger & Surrounds (1 Viewer)

Since moving to the other side of Bromsgrove a couple of years ago, I've adopted a new patch within walking distance from home loosely based around Timberhonger Lane. I know from Birdtrack that this is watched by others so this might be of interest to anyone living nearby or in Bromsgrove generally.
The area is principally farmland, with a couple of small brooks with reedy edges (viewable from Bungay Lake Lane) and a couple of good elevated points - a trig point behind Warridge Lodge Farm and on the footpath at its highest point behind Tickeridge Farm. I include the back end of Sanders Park, our garden and a 5/6 mile circuit down Timberhonger Lane, a bridleway that ultimately runs to the Kidderminster Road, Bungay Lake Farm, Warridge Lodge Farm and the land and stables at Monsieurs Hall - all from Timberhonger Lane and Public Footpaths/Bridleways. A seasonal pool off a Bridleway opposite the entrance to Warridge Lodge Farm adds additional interest.

From my Birdtrack list to date, below are my (meagre) sightings so far (and as at November 2023)

Note - these include sightings going back to when we lived nearby in the late 90's - sightings and matters of interest to date are;

A breeding pair of Hobby and breeding Yellow Wagtail - I will not give precise locations for obvious reasons

Tree Sparrow back in the 90's (excluded from the list below)
6 Crane over our garden in May 2023
Osprey - believed to use the M5 for navigation
Short-eared Owl last month (October 2023)
Occasional Little Owl
Occasional Lapwing (or Green Plover as a local farmer calls them)
Fly over Curlew - presumably heading for Upton Warren
Yellowhammer still present in single figures (unlike in the Tardebigge & surrounds area - see separate Thread). The birds also breed as evidenced by juveniles present in Autumn.

I'll post my sightings on here and any others I hear about - there are regular 'sky watchers' in the area who have picked up Marsh Harrier and other raptors.

Haven't been for a few weeks mainly because I dread how poor the birding will be and the list below illustrates this nicely! One Whitethroat in 4 miles of walking, no Yellowhammer on top of a complete absence of most Farmland birds.
The flash had no signs of life. Last years Rape seed crop provided decent cover, hence Yellow Wagtail and Reed Bunting. This year's sorry looking wheat provides nothing and the water is probably full of pesticides.

I recommend every birder has a patch away from the obvious hotspots just to see what 'normal' countryside is like. Pretty terrible!
