Tories fail British wildlife (1 Viewer)

You guys still have it good. In Slovakia until recently the head of the most important national park was, I kid you not, a formerly convicted poacher. The minister of environment considers the priority in his job to be the development of industry, increase of employment in the rural areas and limiting the influence of NGOs. Well, they could have had a straight out climate change denier, but the president (who is not affiliated with the current government) refused to name him.

The politicians need financial support and that means not upsetting the industrial farmers and the oil companies, regardless of the party they have joined. No different in the USA where as Gore Vidal observed:

"It makes no difference who you vote for - the parties are really one party representing four percent of the people."

After Thatcher and Reagan sold out the governments it no longer matters which party is in power.

Utter nonsense, which is believed only by those on the fringes of either side (e.g. the Trump worshippers and the hyper-left)

Think about who actually decides gets party funding and who decides which candidates get on the ballot. Why do you suppose the elites pushed through Brexit? It removed EU regulations that restricted the use of harmful chemicals and food additives and farm and industry pollutants. To think otherwise if very naive but some prefer blissful ignorance - until it is too late.

The Tories have a reputation for causing irreparable damage to the environment. Just take their stand on driven grouse shooting, all the Tories out shooting pheasants, cahsing innocent animals on horsebak (under the guise of following a trail), their support of industries like fish farming, modern agriculture +++ Brexit was without a doubt the most disastrous thing to happen to Britain since Thatcher, and any new laws in force following the departure from EU are not a stringent as the EU ones. As someone wrote above, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole..... apart of course to push them back into the primeval soup they crawled out of. Trouble is, none of the other major political parties are any better.
Reintroducing species is often necessary, as there are often ecological barriers preventing natural (re)colonisation. But unfortunately, a lot of the prime habitats are long gone, both due to the Tories as well as others. I have never voted for them, and never will.
