Yesterday's visit to the North Gate didn't produce the results I hoped for in the avian world. My favourite moment was when a great white egret flew past at close range, a far cry from the eagle owls and spotted eagles I hoped to see here.

The day, however, was rescued by a freak weather event. In the absence of a supercell thunderstorm or any wind at all, a tornado touched down in the hills north of Torrevieja. So instead of a greater spotted eagle, I got an EFU tornado as compensation
And it was as far as I wanted it to be-14km to the south.

I saw a fair amount of funnel clouds today, but this was the only one which touched the ground. And I'm happy it wasn't the one below instead, because that could have dealt serious damage in the area.

Whilst observing all of this and being supervised by a charming young fox located nearby, I noticed three people intentionally trespass in the restricted area of the El Hondo Nature Reserve. I recognised all three of them- one of them calls themselves a 'bird guide' who ran into serious trouble when he was caught stealing other people's photographs to corroborate his own false sightings in 2021.

These three people were caught last week doing the same thing by the warden and warned not to do so. This follows on from the disturbing events in Kent in which people were shining spotlights at a scops owl found in the area.
I will not name this individual (yet), and hope he does not do so again.
