Wanting to buy an old pair of Trinovid BNs. A pair are available but don’t focus to infinity. Am I right in thinking this wouldn’t effect day to day birding which is all I want them for?
Sounds to me like diopter slip, and probably needs to be reset and a little screw tightened, nothing more. This is a fairly common issue with BA's and BN's, from what I understand. At least one ex Leica technician puts a spot of glue on the head of the screw to stop it working loose again. I don't think this is a DIY job.
In the US they would probably still be in warranty, not sure about UK. But you will surely want to get it fixed. Might also benefit from a checkup in other ways, diopter calibration and so on.
